My nursing career has been in Emergency Nursing, having worked in various Emergency Departments in the North West of England. Posts held include working most recently as an Emergency Nurse Practitioner and Senior Nurse in a large teaching hospital.
I currently maintain my clinical skills working as an honorary Emergency Nurse Practitioner in the Emergency Department at Salford and have an interest in Disaster preparedness, having completed my MSc thesis in this area. My teaching remit extends from pre-registration student nurses – teaching acute and critical illness, and the use of high-fidelity simulation in skills teaching, to MSc students - Advanced Practitioners. I spent some time in Tanzania working in the area of public health (HIV / AIDS) after completing my Masters in Public Health.
I am the lead for the MSc Advanced Practice (Health and Social Care) programme, and a member of regional, national and international networks for Advanced Practice. I am Deputy Chair of the Association of Advanced Practice Educators (AAPE UK), and a member of the International Council of Nurses Advanced Practice Nursing Core Steering Group. My doctoral studies are in the field of Advanced Practice.
