CEN European FM standardisation Over the past three years I have represented the British Standards Institute (BSI), as a nominated expert, to advise CEN, the European Standards organisation, on the creation of a European Standard on Facility Management. Two draft standards have been developed and will be approved at a final meeting in Amsterdam in March 2006. I have been asked to develop and present a proposal for a follow-on standard on FM Processes at the meeting.

IFFM - International Faculty of Facility Management - co-founder; formed in Innsbruck in 2002.

EuroFM I continue to play a leading role in the European Facility Management Network and have fulfilled the role as convenor of the Research Network Group with responsibility for an annual Research Symposium, four research projects and refereed publication. In January 2005, CFM hosted a EuroFM research summit and workshop in Manchester, involving 70 representatives of FM institutions from most European countries. I also lead a network of European researchers (from Norway, Finland, Sweden, France and the Netherlands), formed as the European Workplace Knowledge Network, preparing for bidding in the EC Framework 7 programme.

CIB Working Commission W111 - Usability of Workplaces Under my leadership, a task group (TG51) of CIB (the international research organisation), with participants from six European countries, has focused on Usability, with an emphasis on the workplace. Following achievement of the agreed objectives for and acceptance of the final report, the task group was recently upgraded to the status of a full CIB Working Commission (CIB W111) and has expanded internationally to China, Malaysia, South Africa and Australia. I have represented W111 in other CIB-led intitiatives eg European Construction Platform - Clients and Users Forum (Netherlands, 2006) Integrated Design Solutions (Ancara, 2005)
