David Garbutt is a Lecturer in Long Term Conditions and End of Life Care. He is also year lead for the second year of the undegraduate degree programme in nursing. David has a 20 year clinical background in cancer, hospice and palliative care nursing as a Lead Cancer Nurse, Macmillan Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Specialist and End of Life Care Education Faciliator across Manchester and Bolton. His main interests are around the facilitation of learning of healthcare professionals when caring for dying patients and those close to them. His Masters degree explored the role of the humanities in healthcare and his teaching approach reflects the use of the arts and humanities in nursing education. David is a nationally accreditted Advanced Communication Skills Trainer with the National Cancer Action Team Connected Programme. His research interests include the impact and effectiveness of healthcare interventions on the experience of dying for individuals and their families.
