Profile Summary

I am a Research Development Officer in the Research Development Team.  I was formerly an Associate Lecturer in Politics and Contemporary History, School of Arts & Media, teaching on the module 'Issues in Contemporary History'.  I have also taught at the Universities of Huddersfield and MMU where I specialised in modern British history since 1750.

I gained my PhD in 2011, researching 'The Public House in Manchester and Salford, c1815-1880'. I have particular interests in British history from around 1750 and my research is focussed around the history of the North West; the role of drink in society; commerce and trade; and popular politics of the nineteenth century.

My book - The Story of Manchester - was published in August 2017.
