- Prof Sheel joined the Materials Institute at Salford, from Industry, as a research professor in 2000. Prior to this he spent a number of years working in R&D in a wide range of businesses with a particular focus in the coatings area, and specialising in atmospheric pressure (thermal) CVD (APCVD). To date, at Salford, he has been awarded four EPSRC funded programmes, five EU funded projects, and has also been awarded 5 Industrial CASE funded PhDs all in the CVD area, In the last five years Prof. Sheel has published over 40 papers, submitted 6 patents, and given many invited talks. He is a member of the CEC "expert list" for evaluation of large project proposals. He is a founder Board member of EJIPAC (European Japanese Initiative in Photocatalysis Applications and Commercialisation). Prof Sheel holds a number of industrial consultancies, in the field of CVD, with Major International companies. Together with Prof Pemble (now at NMRC, Cork) in 2000, he established a spin-out company from the University of Salford, CVD Technologies Ltd, aimed at the exploitation of state-of-the-art CVD technology, consultancy and new product concepts in the field of CVD. The company has established an International reputation, and has Internationally leading technology, reflected in the fact that over 90% of the company sales derive from outside the UKThis has recently been re-inforced by the signing of several strategic licensing agreements allowing major International companies to use CVD Technologies Ltd. technology.
