My background is in mental health, homelessness and youth offending. I am a qualified social worker and have worked in health, social care and youth offending for 28 years. Before taking up post in Salford, I worked for 6 years as a lecturer on the social work programme at Stockport College. Prior to this I was a practice educator for over 14 years with health and social work students.
I have worked with young people with a wide range of mental health issues along with a history of substance misuse. As someone with 20 plus years working with people with a wide range of mental health needs, I have looked to develop and enhance the support people with mental health issues have needed. I have also looked to promote and develop support for carers, who I feel have often been overlooked in the mental health field.
My specific topics of interest are adults who have experienced mental health issues, the support and mental wellbeing of young people with enduring mental health issues, service user and carer involvement in research, education and practice; work with people with dual diagnosis (substance misuse and mental health), and the development of inovative practice with our students in their practice.
