Nando joined the Automous Systems and Advanced Robotics Centre of the University of Salford from the University of Liverpool, where he was Research Team Leader at the Virtual Engineering Centre (VEC).
His main research area focuses on applications of Virtual/Augmented Reality to Manufacturing (Product and Process Design) and Human-Computer Interaction (Human-Robot Cooperation, Teleoperation/Telepresence). Immersive virtual environments have the potential to provide the ideal platform for human-centred simulations, hence one important aspect of his research involves Human Factors in VR.
Nando has a hybrid industrial-academic background in Advanced Robotics, Control Systems, System Modelling and Simulation (Digital Manufacturing) and Virtual Engineering (VR/AR applied to Manufacturing). He has a twenty-years experience in R&D, working in and managing both commercial and UK/EU-funded project within hi-tech companies and research institutes. His work has covered a wide variety of areas, including Aerospace, Automotive, Food, Defence and Nuclear Industries.
