Intracellular parasites have a particularly strong association with their hosts and have often evolved mechanisms to manipulate their hosts and ensure their own transmission. My interests are in understanding the relationship between transmission and disease I use two systems; the zoonotic pathogen Toxoplasma gondii and the microsporidia, a group of fungal related parasites that infect all animal taxa.
