I developed the nationally acclaimed service Participation Through Sport 2003 to 2013 (PTS). This promoted the embodied leadership of children and young people through associational activities. This was in contrast to most participation which reflects professional priorities and mimics representative structures. In contrast PTS, developed leadership skills, provided consultancy to inform young people's provision and established community clubs to promote young people’s contribution to the wider community.
This resulted in a distinctive young people led model of provision led to partnerships with The Football Association, O2 Think Big, The National Youth Agency, Sports Leaders UK, StreetGames, Affinity Sutton Housing Trust and Cedar Mount Academy. In 2012 PTS was a delivery partner for the Governments Flagship Youth Programme National Citizen Service gaining the regional and national award sponsored by V.
I have over 20 years’ experience within statutory, charitable and third sector organizations. This has involved working as a social worker within youth justice, looked after children and leaving care services and in undertaking consultations and promoting young people’s participation.
I joined the University in September 2013. I have been involved in a student experiential learning project, worked with local high schools in relation to a health and wellbeing consultation that took place as part of Children’s Takeover Day and been part of a research team evaluating Salford Dadz.
I have developed an MA in Social Pedagogy. I am also collaborating with Salford Council and local providers of services to promote the leadership of young people and students within the community.
