I am active as a researcher in poetic composition, parallels between poetry and music composition and theory, and the poetry of Edward Thomas. I also work as a collaborative translator. My creative work spans the genres of short fiction, poetry, visual text, digital poetry and plays for the theatre. I have edited an anthology of Edward Thomas's poems and related letters to contemporary poets, Edward Thomas's Poets, published by Carcanet Press. A collection of my own poetry The Drier The Brighter is published by Cinnamon Press, and one of these poems was selected for the Forward book of poetry: a collection of the best poems of the year (2007) from the Forward Poetry Prizes. A second collection, Joy Change, will be published in 2010. My current projects include a book for Enitharmon Press on Edward Thomas's letters to Walter de la Mare; a book for the Welsh University Press on Edward Thomas's composing processes; collaboration with Alec FInlay on his White Peak Dark Peak renga project; a collection of poems about climbing; development and production of a translated Japanese kyogen play; collaborative translation with Yukari Kimura of the creative non fiction of Japanese climber Yasushi Yamanoi, and papers on parallels between poetry and music composition. I am also collaborating with digital artist Steven Earnshaw on a series of digital interactive and animated poems. These can be viewed on flash art gallery http://teaching.shu.ac.uk/ds/sle/ earnshaw/gallery. My poems, short fiction and translations are published in a number of magazines and websites, including Ambit, Stand and PN Review and recent poetry readings have included venues in the UK (Manchester, London, Chester ,Cheltenham, Hay-on-Wye, Cambridge), the Netherlands (Amsterdam, Groningen) and the Czech Republic (Olomouc). A reading of my translation of a kyogen play, Fumininai /Weighed down by Love, took place at Slough's East@West Festival in 2007. It was performed at Contact Theatre, Manchester, in May 2008.
