I have worked in the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work since 1996 initially as a Lecturer Practitioner until in 2004 I became a full time Lecturer in Nursing. The Practitioner element of the Lecturer Practitioner role was based in medicine where my areas of interestin Practice Development and Research included mulitidisciplinary working and the developments that promoted a self care philosophy of care and the needs of the informal carers of stroke patients.
Before working at the School of Nursing. Midwifery and Social Work for the majority of my clinical career I worked in critical care areas caring for patients with critical illnesses.
My teaching and learning interests include leadership and management, care of the critcally ill patient and their families, flexible and work based learning. As progamme leader for the post qualifying degree BSc (Hons) Enhancing Professional Healthcare Practice and my input to year three of the pre registration programme I am also very interested in the transition from student nurse to qualified nurse and preceptorship. I was actively involved in a Whole School Project related to transition.
