Joe Smeeton has an extensive history as a Child Protection Social Work Practitioner and academic. He joined the University of Salford in 2015 but has also worked at the University of Sheffield, University of East Anglia and Nottingham Trent University.
Joe's research is mainly around child prtoection social work practice and decision-making especially around the use of adoption as a disposal. He draws upon an interest in social theory and philosophy in his use of phenomenology as a research strategy and as a way of understanding the human condition.
Joe is keen to explore the impact of social work practice on the key actors but especially on birth parents and children & young people. He is also interested in new reporductive technologies and their role in building families.
