Profile Summary

I have worked in the social care and social work sectors since the early 1990s. My areas of practice include domestic violence and abuse (DVA), supported housing, community development and child, young people and families social work. I am a registered social worker. I currently enjoy the role of Programme Leader for the Masters Degree in Social Work in the School of Health & Society.

Since completing my PhD with the University of Sheffield in 2013 I have developed my profile as an active researcher with interests in a number of areas including:

  • interpersonal violence
  • gender-based violence, domestic abuse and familial abuse
  • gender, trans and gender diversity
  • hidden and marginalised communities
  • multiple and complex forms of social exclusion
  • equality and human rights
  • narrative methods.

I welcome collaborative opportunities and I'm currently working with colleagues in the UK and overseas developing a number of projects that align with my interests (on, for example, older poeople's experience of violence and abuse). I also enjoy supervising postgraduate research students and welcome enquiries from people with an interest in the areas noted above.

Finally, I am an active member of the School and University community, working to support the equality agenda by representing the School at the insitution-wide Women in Research task group and I am Co-Chair for the School's Athena Swan committee. I also represent the School as a Board Member of Salford Together's Equality Advisory Board (Salford Together is a partnership between Salford City Council, NHS Salford Clinical Commissioning Group, Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, Salford Primary Care Together and the Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foudnation Trust).
