In 1994 I qualified as an occupational therapist from Coventry University. My clinical and research areas of interest are concerned with the built environment and how it can be used to promote and support health and well-being. Having completed an MSc in Accessibility and Inclusive Design in 2011, I began my research career by undertaking an Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council funded PhD in the School of the Built Environment, here at the University of Salford. This research, which was completed in July 2016, was concerned with the process used by occupational therapists in designing and constructing housing modifications for older and disabled people. In September 2015, I was fortunate enough to join the occupational therapy teaching team in the School of Health Sciences.
