Dr Sura Al-Maiyah is a Senior Lecturer in Urban Technology at the School of the Built Environment (SoBE). Prior to her current position at Salford, she was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth leading the Master Course in Sustainable Architecture, worked in the research-based practice Short and Associates Architects in London, and held a Research Associate position at the School of Built Environment, Ulster University.
Dr Al-Maiyah’s research interest is in daylighting design, the visual and thermal performance of buildings and sustainable development of heritage sites.
Sura is a Co-Investigator on a large research grant funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) (£188K) and currently working with an industrial partner and the Energy House team on understanding the relationship between the quality of the living environment and the health of residents in care home context (£19K).
She is a member of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), the Society of Light and Lighting (SLL), the International Council on Monuments & Sites UK (ICOMOS), and a reviewer for the Council for Assisting Refugee Academics (CARA), the UK programme.
