Profile Summary

Dr. Saeed Forghany is a qualified Prosthesist & Orthosist by first degree and clinical biomechanics specialist. Saeed leads the department of Orthotics and Prosthetics in the School of Rehabilitation Sciences at the Isfahan University of Medical Sciences (IUMS), Islamic Republic of Iran, providing undergraduate and postgraduate education and research programme in Prosthetics & Orthotics. Saeed is the first associate professor in Orthotics and Prosthetics in Iran and also an honorary senior lecturer in the Salford University, UK.
Dr Forghany has a wide range of well-established skills, competencies and experience in health and O&P research, health technologies and higher education. For his PhD he studied people affected by stroke and the efficacy of foot orthotics, in the Salford University, UK.
He has a wealth of experience in major R&D projects related to foot health, insoles and footwear. Subsequent to his PhD, Saeed was employed as a research fellow on the largest ever private sector investment in foot health research. The international foot care brand Scholl invested £1.7M in research and education in the School of health sciences, Salford University, UK. Saeed was a key figure in research related to footwear designs and formation of foot skin blisters. The blister research was the first ever to develop a method to test foot blister products, and the device was subsequently patented. Dr. Forghany recently participated in the EU funded SMARTPIF project (SMART tool for footwear and orthotic prescription, see www.smartpif.eu). Specifically, he studied at the INESCOP Industrial R&D centre in Spain, advancing a new technology to measure 4D foot shape. This provides new data on the 3D shape of the foot during the walking cycle (hence 4D). He is now starting to investigate how this new 4D data can be used clinically and in insole/orthotic and footwear design. In summer 2015, Dr Forghany was successful in gaining a competitively awarded funding from the Australian Government and completed an Endeavour postdoctoral Fellowship at Australia’s largest School of Podiatry and Prosthetics and Orthotics training, La Trobe University, Melbourne.
