My background is as a qualified social worker with children and families and particualry in the area of child and adolescent mental health. Prior to my taking the post at Salford I worked for a number of years at Blackpool and the Fylde College, teaching across a range of health and social care programmes. I was the College Equality and Diversity coordinator for a number of years, during which time the College acquired Beacon status for practice in the area of equality and diversity. I have also managed staff development and develope a range of programmes for new and more experienced staff in the college.
Prior to my work at the College I had a post as specialist social worker for looke after children with the Blackpool Child and Adolescent mental health service, my first social work role was as a member of a children and families team in Moss side and Hulme, Manchester
My areas of practice include understanding the impact of trauma and neglect on the developing child, working with children and young people experiencing complex mental health difficulties, especially eating disorders, depression and self harm, attachment based parenting , sexual exploitation and the impact on young people of living in a pornified society.
I have previously been involved in local politics and have an keen interest in the interface between local authority decion making and the impact on social work practice.
I am associate of Equality and Diversity Uk and deliver training and development across the country predominently in the area of embedding diversity into practice within the Further Education Sector.
