Profile Summary
Research and writing crosses two broad areas: critical and cultural theory (with special emphasis on post-structuralism, psychoanalysis and Walter Benjamin) and various aspects of visual culture (taking in photography, drama and theatre, and cinema). In 1999 co-edited a book entitled Ghosts: Deconstruction, Psychoanalysis, History and in 2001 published Drama + theory: Critical Approaches to Modern British Drama (Manchester University Press). More recently has been involved in collaborative projects and is currently writing, with Ken Hirschkop, Scott McCracken and Bertrand Taithe, a short book on Walter Benjamin's Arcades Project, tentatively calling this book, which will be published by Manchester University Press, Walter Benjamin's Arcades: an unguided tour. Also in the early stages of a book-length project with Nuria Triana-Toribio and Andy Willis on the Spanish filmmaker Alex de la Iglesia. Happy to supervise students on topics in contemporary theory and in modern British drama.
