Profile Summary

Graduated in 1979 from Baghdad University with a BSc in civil engineering (ranked 11th amongst 185 graduates) followed (in 1984) by MSc in geotechnical engineering. Worked mainly as a lecturer within the higher education sector.  In 1990, obtained a PhD in geotechnical engineering from Heriot-Watt university/Edinburgh. Currently a member of staff-lecturer in civil engineering at the university of Salford/Manchester. Main area of research is geotechnical engineering; also has been engaged in research and programme development activities for other areas, i.e., energy efficient buildings, sustainability and green building management. Future research will focus on sustainability related geotechnical installations; mainly geothermal piles, ground source heat pumps.
