Profile Summary
Dr Vicky Simpson obtained degrees from Manchester Metropolitan University BA (1997); MA (1998) and PhD (2004) and the University of Portsmouth (MSc, 2005). Vicky has also been awarded a Post Graduate Teaching Certificate (2009). After appointments at Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Manchester, Vicky joined the SURF research group in November 2004 as a Researcher. SURF is part of UPRISE (Urban Processes, Resilient Infrastructures and Sustainable Environments), one of two research centres in the School of the Built Environment. Drawing on her research background, Vicky was promoted to the role of SURF Research Administrator in January 2007. Her main responsibilities are: contributing to the management of the group as a whole (strategic direction, resourcing and planning, event organisation and representing the group within the University and externally); knowledge management (including knowledge exchange strategies and targeted dissemination) and administration of research projects within the group (including responsibilities for budgetary control, contractual issues, project staffing and resourcing and research reporting/dissemination). Vicky is currently working on a portfolio of longer term research projects. These include: ¿X The Greater Manchester Local Interaction Platform funded by Mistra Urban Futures, who receive funding from the Swedish Environmental Research Foundation (Mistra) ¿X Cultural Intermediation: Connecting Communities in the Creative Urban Economy funded by the AHRC ¿X Jam and Justice: Co-producing Urban Governance for Social Innovation funded by the ESRC ¿X CHIME (¡¥Cultural Heritage and Improvised Music in Europe¡¦) as part of the JPI Heritage Plus scheme funded by AHRC Vicky is involved in the production of newsletters, websites and other promotional materials to support knowledge exchange of SURF¡¦s work to a range of external audiences, Vicky is the first point of contact for enquiries about SURF¡¦s work (e-mail: v.simpson@salford.ac.uk).
