As Research Centre Manager of SURF my key esponsibilities relate to: the management of the Centre as a whole (e.g. strategic direction, resourcing and planning, income generation, representing the Centre within the University and externally etc.); knowledge management (including knowledge exchange strategies and targeted dissemination); direction and management of a number of research projects within the Centre (including responsibility for budgetary control, contractual issues, project staffing and resourcing, research reporting/dissemination etc.); and line management for office support staff. In relation to my role of Centre Manager, I have intellectual interests relating to the development of knowledge management systems to support knowledge exchange of SURF's work to a wide ramge of external audiences. Specific interests are therefore focussed on effective research dissemination methodologies, including the development of different types of research reports, newsletters, website, and other promotional materials.
In addition to the latter, I also have more general intellectual interests focussed in four broad areas. Firstly, the PhD examined the impact of modernisation and the introduction of IT in the betting industry and this has led to interests around social studies of technology and organizational cultures. Secondly, interests relating to the changing role of universities in the knowledge economy. Thirdly, cultures of inquiry, with specific attention to knowledge production, transmission and reception of knowledge within academic disciplines and the health sector. Fourthly, public understanding of science, knowledge transfer and issues of public engagement and renewable energy technologies.
