Balancing risk and choice in childbirth after caesarean section
Baxter, L & Davies, S E 2010, 'Balancing risk and choice in childbirth after caesarean section', British Journal of Midwifery, 18(10), pp.358 -364.
Despite a consensus that rates of caesarean section are too high and should be reduced, the rate of vaginal birth after caesarean (VBAC) appears to be declining. This article explores the possible reasons for this, as well as examining the factors that may influence a woman's decision about future mode and place of birth following a previous caesarean section. There is a need for research exploring women's reasons for choosing VBAC or elective repeat caesarean section and the way in which risk is communicated.
