John is a Lecturer in Psychology, and a member of the British Psychological Society (BPS). He has lectured in higher education for over 20 years at four UK universities. His teaching has primarily been in the area of social psychology and to date, he has over 35 research publications in a range of areas of psychology. Topics of particular interest are: the psychology of deafness and sign language, global psychology, travel, culture, political violence, peace psychology, prosocial behaviour, survival psychology, conservation and sustainable living, astronauts’ experiences, ocean rowing, individual differences and mental imagery, and aspects of teaching and learning in higher education. Between 2008 & 2013 John was been a member of the BPS Undergraduate Education Committee, carrying out accreditation work at universities in the UK. He has also conducted external work for the universities of Teesside, Winchester, Swansea Metropolitan, Bolton and Huddersfield. He has acted as a reviewer for: Ethical Human Sciences Services Journal, International Journal of Consumer Studies, Behaviour Research Methods and Perceptual and Motor Skills. John has been nominated for University of Salford teaching excellence awards.
